An Immersive Outdoor Café Scene</a>
To stimulate the senses and elevate mood
Our client was looking for a "wrap around" outdoor scene that would provide gentle stimulation for their guests at this Adult Day Centre in North York.
This is the Dining Room, but this scene would be equally enjoyable as an Activity Room or a general gathering place.
Studies have demonstrated that even having a view of the outdoors offers similar feelings of well-being to actually being outdoors. This "open-air" room (which is full of foliage, birds and butterflies), is an uplifting addition to this Adult Day Centre.
A film was applied to the windows as the view was limited to the parking lot (as is often the case in built-up city locations). However, this did not diminish the effect of daylight streaming in and adding to the “outdoor” effect of this “courtyard” room.
All that remained was to create this entrance which plays down the kitchen door on the right and emphasizes the Dining Room door on the left. The windows in both doors allow for a visual both into the rooms and from the interior to the outside, in order to avoid collisions (this see-through visual is easier for those without cognitive impairment).
