End of Hallway "Bus Stop"

October 14, 2019

All people want some control over their “comings-and-goings”. Having destinations are important. Long hallways that lack interest can be triggers for unhappy behaviours in Memory Care Communities. Here is one of our solutions to that “dead-ending” long hallway.

Long View - bold imagery makes this a destination and decreases the likelihood of incursion into other resident’s room.

These end-of-hall areas can be dismal and under-utilized. However, such spaces can be made into cozy, self-directed destinations as part of the "village theme" embraced by many care homes today, giving residents a sense of independence and community living.

"Dead-ending" hallways can create anxiety for residents who become confused about "where to go from here"? The focus often turns to stairwell exit doors and other resident rooms where conflict can arise. Does this sound familiar?

Having a "purpose-driven" destination at the end of the hall can be more satisfying for a resident, where they can sit and relax, feeling like they have "arrived" somewhere.

Carefully placed benches or chairs have residents facing the return trip down the hallway rather than focusing on doors at this dead-end.

At Creative Art Co, we are about solving problems while doing our best to anticipate any additional ones. No one wants to be ignored and anyone anticipating a ticket sale while at the “bus stop” can see clearly that the attendant is off on their lunch hour! The resident then can sit and wait, or come back another time, but the lack of service is explained.
